| Happy New Year! |
[Jan. 1st, 2009|10:11 am] |
In 2008, I got promoted, changed cities, and bought a house.
In 2009, perhaps we will finally get around to the whole getting married thing. ;) |

| [ | mood |
| | amused | ] | I think my annual allergies have hit.
I've had a headache since Tuesday. I'd been attributing it to my food poisoning incident on Monday night/Tuesday morning. Today it occurred to me that it's a pressure headache, of the sort that makes my eyes feel too big for my head. Which is how my May allergies usually start. :-P
Really, just perfect timing. I so want to be meeting new people while suffering from the next stage of my May allergies: The Cough. The Cough, which makes everyone in the immediate area cower in fear of being infected. Perhaps I will have shirts printed: "Allergies! I'm NOT contagious! Please don't run away!" ;) |

| Bikes |
[Apr. 30th, 2008|06:33 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | sleepy | ] | More people in my neighborhood seem to be biking around. I find this to be a Very Happy Thing. (Particularly on days when I have to traverse the Sepulveda Pass. Slowly. *cough* *wheeze*).
However, two things disturb me -- most of them seem to be helmet-less, and many of them are riding on the sidewalks, and using crosswalks as if they were pedestrians. Grrr. I'm a good driver. I am! But, I can not predict when a bike will suddenly come whizzing through a crosswalk that was empty 2 seconds before. Or across the entrance to our garage. And, I do not desire to be responsible for cracked skulls. *shakes head*
In related news, I do wish that I were less scared of biking on the LA streets. And that LA streets all had proper bike lanes. And that bike helmets were more compatible with my hair. ;) |

| | moody | ] | I have a whole bunch of non-mainstream, likely very unpopular opinions. Sometimes they leak out in public, but mostly only Jeff knows the whole picture (and loves me anyway, that crazy Canadian).
Sure I look like your average Democrat, but in reality, I think I have some views that are further to the right than most Republicans, further to the left than Kucinich, and some that probably defy classification. Someday my brain may explode, and everyone will run screaming. ;) |

Jeff & I went to see Tommy last night. As in, the music that was on Broadway for a while back in the 90s (The Who's Tommy, but not at all like the movie). It was being put on by a theatre group at CSUN.
Parts of it were pretty good, and everyone was definitely talented. Parts just looked sloppy -- like, they didn't have enough time or money to get it right, so they just sort of left it. Parts were just...huh? Instead of an actual 10 year old child, they had a puppet. With a puppeteer that was onstage whenever the puppet needed to be moving. It was just...odd. And distracting. And couldn't have done great things for the actors who had to work with the puppet. And, just...WTF? I'm not sure if they were trying to go for some sort of symbolism, or what, but whatever it was, I didn't get it.
And the English accents were *awful*. They were mostly not there, but then every so often a few words would be very Eliza Dolittle-esque.
But hey...it only cost $10, and was a pleasant reminder of the Broadway production. And fun, which was really all I was going for.
Hmm...I am wondering if I should give up this computer to one of my fellow potential jury people... |

[Apr. 6th, 2008|12:31 pm] |
This whole lack of credit card debt thing has been bad for my spending. Zappos.com is really an evil, evil place. ;)
Next month, I am definitely putting myself on a severely restricted budget. Because I am just asking for financial catastrophe currently.
This month is already somewhat of a lost cause, with next weekend's trip, anniversary plans, and at least a feeble attempt to fill in the gaping hole left in my "wardrobe" by my recent closet purging.
But, May! May will be the month of financial responsibility. |

| [ | mood |
| | amused | ] | Just did a massive cleaning out of my closet yesterday -- got rid of *3* garbage bags of stuff, most of it clothing that I hadn't worn in years. This has left my closet very empty looking, which leaves me really, really, really wanting to go shopping. However, my wallet says otherwise. It's so hard being responsible when I want shoes! ;) |

| [ | mood |
| | cranky | ] | I must get out of this city...too much traffic. Need buses! Trains! Stuff that's not so frickin' spread out!
I was dealing pretty well with the traffic for a little while, but either it's gotten worse, or my patience has gotten shorter. Or maybe the one time I was able to take the bus somewhere was just too nice. (That bus, by the way, given where it originated, the stops it made, the time I was taking it, and the amount of time between buses, should have been packed. Instead, the seats weren't even all filled. *shakes head*).
Must escape! |

And then, perhaps I will move to Toronto. Or London. |

[Mar. 9th, 2008|03:19 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | amused | ] | I'm aware that they say that many women are walking around in bras that are the wrong size. I figured it was somewhat likely I was one of them, given my issues finding bras that fit correctly, and the whole "breasts falling out sideways" problem that I often have.
Victoria's Secret always tries to cram me into something silly like a 34B whenever they size me. I heard Nordstrom does a good job, so I headed over there. And, y'know what size I am? 32. 32DD. Which would explain why my bras never seem to fit, 'cause I'm generally in a 36D or a 38C, or thereabouts.
Sheesh.
In other news, I think I've met (and perhaps exceeded) the number of events somewhat geared towards children I can attend this year. ;) |

| The day, she has not been good... |
[Feb. 28th, 2008|04:00 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | drained | ] | Server issues, again. I feel somewhat responsible -- I should have escalated this the last time it happened, such that it didn't get to this point. I mean, there are others who could have pushed a solution through and didn't, but that doesn't mean I'm innocent.
And, I hate our hosting company. I'm sure this happens to some extent at many companies, but their sales people were all nice & friendly when I was talking to them about an upgrade; and then, once they had all the information they needed to perform the upgrade, there was no one around to answer questions about when it was actually going to happen. Grrr.
So, I contacted sales, and the guy insisted that upgrades could take up to 24 hours (not the 2-3 hours that the initial sales guy had told me). I grumbled a bit, sales guy #2 went to go look up my account and said that it was already upgraded. (Who knows if it actually is?) Sales guy #1 had said that the email address on file would get an email that needed to be responded to before the upgrade could complete; no email ever showed up, so I have no clue what's going on.
We also can't get into the admin page for some reason (none of the user/password combinations we've tried work, and telling it to email the password to us also doesn't work -- email doesn't show up). I submitted a support ticket, but who knows when that will get resolved. Grrr. Again.
Yesterday, I spent the entire day at the Microsoft Launch Event at LACC (I took the bus! I know, it's lame that it took me 3 years to get on a bus in LA). Interesting stuff, but soooooo tiring. Not a good day to have right before the day I've had today. Maybe tomorrow will be better. :-/ |

| | annoyed | ] | It's been a big week for that.
( So as not to bore you with details, as they are boring. Trust me. )
I know I let this stuff bother me too much. I know it's not a big deal. But, the extent to which big corporations just don't seem to care about making their customers happy bugs me. Really, really bugs me. So, what to do? Complain, do nothing, just let stuff like this go? Likely, I should be working on my skills in the "letting stuff go" department... |

| | amused | ] | I am not all that photogenic.
However, looking at pictures from my office holiday party I realized: My *hair* looks gorgeous in pictures. Much better, I think, than it does in real life.
The party pictures were an especially good example because I'd spent the day wandering around Seattle, with my hair getting blown around & rained on, and I was pretty sure it looked awful -- but the pictures say that it actually looked pretty wonderful. So, w00t. :) |

If you have an IM name listed in your lj profile, you may receive an IM from a random stranger saying "Your friends-only posts have been stolen! Oh noes!" with a link.
Ignore it. Particularly if you're at work. (Thankfully, didn't check it out myself). |

| A popular peeve of mine... |
[Jan. 16th, 2008|08:45 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | cranky | ] | I'm sure I've griped about this before.
I do not care how cute/adorable/friendly/small/etc. you think your dog is -- unless it's inside your house or (fenced) backyard, it needs to be on a leash. I do not care to be bitten or even nibbled, even if the dog is "only playing"; I do not want to be jumped on or run at, even if the dog is "only being friendly"; I do not want to start my day off by witnessing or being involved in the accident that happens when your adorable little critter runs out into traffic.
This morning, we passed the same not-on-a-leash dog twice -- both times, it ran at us barking. The second time, we informed the dog's walker that it was against the law for the dog to not be on a leash. Her response? She didn't have a leash. Wha? Maybe if she was out in the country, but this is frickin' Los Angeles.
Rrrarrr. |

| | curious | ] | I haven't had cats all my life. I've had one cat. She's now 5 years old, and we've had her since she was a kitten. So, perhaps I'm missing something, but...I truly do not understand people who say "Oh, I tried to give my cat X brand of cat food, but she wouldn't eat it." Or, "I'd like to feed my cat dry food, but he won't touch it."
Really? The cat goes for days without eating? The cat will starve unless you provide whatever brand/form of cat food the cat wants? I really, really doubt it.
I like when Cordie's happy, but let's face it...she'd be happiest if we regularly gave her a full plate of whatever we're having for dinner. And then she'd regularly be sick. So, perhaps she's not the best judge of what she should eat.
(I have a similar opinion about kids. Perhaps I should never have my own. ;)) |
